After our stopover in Bath and a peaceful night’s sleep at The Retreat pub car park, we hit the road again, bound for our main destination: Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay.
With clear roads, beautiful views, and two buzzing kids in the back, we arrived feeling ready to settle into our base for the week.
First Impressions of the Campsite
Hendra is massive, but not overwhelming. The layout is well thought out, the signage is clear, and the staff were friendly and helpful from the minute we checked in.
We got ourselves parked up on our pitch, hooked up, and quickly started exploring.
Here’s our breakdown of what stood out at Hendra Holiday Park:
What We Loved
Oasis Fun Pool
An absolute hit with the kids! The indoor Oasis Fun Pool has slides, rapids, and warm water – ideal if the Cornish weather turns.
Tip: Book your slots early during peak times – it fills up fast.
Kids Entertainment
The evening shows and entertainment were a big win with Freya and Bobby. From live music to magic acts and mini-discos, it was all family-focused and well-run.
On-Site Facilities
There’s a shop, a restaurant, a takeaway, and even a bar (yes, for grown-up sanity). Plus, loads of open space for bikes, scooters, or just running about.
We took full advantage of the bike trails, and even managed a few peaceful walks ourselves while the kids played.
Cooking in the Motorhome
Thanks to the well-equipped kitchen in the motorhome, we could balance eating out with easy meals inside. Yes, we packed the air fryer, and no, we have no regrets.

What Could Be Better
Busy Shower Blocks
The only downside? The communal shower blocks could get busy at peak hours. No big issue, especially since we had facilities onboard—but something to keep in mind if you’re not using a motorhome.
Patchy Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is available, but patchy in some parts of the site. Honestly, it helped us unplug, but if you rely on it for work or entertainment, bring a backup.

Exploring Newquay
We didn’t spend all our time at Hendra—Newquay is too good not to explore. Here are some highlights:
- Fistral Beach – Great for a paddle, or just watching the surfers.
- Newquay Zoo – Small, friendly, and just enough for a half-day visit.
- Harbour walks and ice cream – Classic and always a win with kids.
We even managed to stop at a few hidden gems on the way back up—another reason why travelling by motorhome is such a game-changer.
Hendra Holiday Park – The Verdict
Would we do it again? Absolutely.
Hendra was a perfect mix of fun for the kids and comfort for us, and the motorhome gave us complete flexibility to roam, relax, and make the most of our time off.
If you’re thinking about hiring a motorhome, especially with young kids, our advice would be:
- Plan early
- Book big-ticket activities (like pools) in advance
- Pack smart (air fryer = hero status)
- Break up the drive with overnight stopovers
- And most importantly… enjoy the chaos!
